Gambling comes in many forms and types. Gaming includes slot machines, roulette, bingo, card games and others. Betting is a form of gambling that allows people to bet on horse racing, cock fights and any kind of sports. There are also lotteries, sweepstakes and raffles. All of these are forms of gambling because they involve money that you could either win or lose

The legalization of many types of gambling has led more and more people to engage in gambling. And as the economic situation is getting worse, gambling is becoming the best option to win money and improve the living condition. The most affected people are the poor and the disadvantaged who are looking for a get rich quick way to augment their meager earnings and taste a better life but instead of improving their life they end up getting poorer and poorer because what little earnings they have is squandered in gambling. Gambling has become a good way to earn money for the poor but it is hurting them more rather than helping them live a better life.

Although some people claim to have put up a business because of their winnings in the casino, there are countless people who have gone the opposite way. Most people have been better off when they did not start gambling but they went bankrupt when they were addicted to the vice.

Here are reasons why you should not gamble:

1. Gambling is the cause of indolence

Many gamblers are depending on luck of having that jackpot money and so they tend to lose interest in their job. If you think you can win that jackpot money, do not dream of it because the more you long for it the more you will not win it. Look for a job so that you will forget about the vice.

2. Gambling is addictive

Unless you have full control of yourself, you will most likely get addicted to gambling if your dream is to win big money. Many people think that they are just relaxing at first but they end up hooked to the vice. What hooks them is when they win for the first time. People gamble because of the money. If the person wins, he craves for more. If he loses, he wants to get back what he lost and so the cycle goes on and the person becomes addicted.

3. Gambling never makes you rich

No matter what people say, gambling is a vice that could make you penniless if you don’t stop. A compulsive gambler will find all means to finance his vice. He will embezzle money or borrow money from people in order to gamble. The pattern of gambling is the same to all people. Win-lose-win-lose, this goes on and on if the gambler does not stop. The result is the same. The gambler always ends up the loser. I guess you know why. Gambling is patterned to be that way. There is no certainty. If you win today, you lose tomorrow. Perhaps not tomorrow but the next day or the other day, but there is no gambler who won and never lost.

4. Gambling causes stress

Unless you always win which I’m sure rarely happens, gambling stresses a person. You cannot say that you are relaxing or just playing because if you lost a substantial amount of money, you will go home with an empty pocket plus a bad headache. Gambling is stressful especially if you are in front of the machine and the bonus does not come out. So you will be left at the edge of your chair eagerly awaiting a bonus that will not come anyway and will only come out for the next player who will take your place if you leave the machine where you have already deposited all your money. In a bingo, you can have a heart attack if you are only waiting for one number and finally the next number called is not yours but some other players number which won him that million jackpot money. Gambling is always a chance of luck. So you can never be certain what may happen next.

5. Gambling makes people rude and moody

I have seen a lot of people who have been morally changed by gambling. The vice makes a person rude. The greed to win makes a person rude to people around him because his mind is engrossed with the money he will win. Gamblers who are already addicted to the vice will not think of other people. They will only think of how to finance their vice and how to win back their lost money.

6. Gambling deters the persons drive to work

Because the gambler usually relies on luck, he does not seem to mind finding work. The gambler waits for the time when he hits the jackpot and become an instant millionaire. He has seen too much money already and he will not be satisfied with small earnings and small winnings. He wants the big jackpot money and he will keep gambling and longing for the jackpot.

7. Gambling ruins a family

Gamblers are hard to reform and what usually happens is that the gambler ends up having no family. Nobody wants to live with a gambler who is moody and who squanders money. So the result is the spouse could either file for a divorce or just leave the gambling spouse. Many families have been torn apart by gambling.

8. Gambling is fun only at first

If you want to try gambling, do not pursue it. You will not be pleased with the result. Once you try, you will keep going back in the hope of winning more money which does not prosper anyway. If you won once, say thank you and bring home the money you won, because if you don’t you will end up having nothing. Do not push your luck too much when you are in the casino. The truth is that many gamblers who win end up being losers because they are never satisfied with the small winnings they get. They long for the jackpot which very rarely happens.

9. Gambling induces crimes

Some people commit crimes to finance their vice. The compulsive gambler will not stop gambling, he will stop but he will always go back to that vice because the vice is already a part of his life and he could not live without gambling. If he has no money to gamble he could steal or commit other crimes just to finance his vice.

10. Gambling is a bad vice

Gambling is a bad vice. It is similar to drug addiction, smoking, and sex. Gambling is against moral standards and it is abhorred by many people. No matter what some people think about gambling as one way of earning money, gambling is still a bad vice by moral standards.

Gambling is like a disease that when not cured early could ruin the person’s life. No one likes to have a partner who gambles a lot. If you want to gamble, gamble on business but not in the slot machine, the poker table, the roulette, bingo or lotteries. Unless luck is always in your hands which I’m sure is impossible, gambling will never make you rich but it will make you poor and penniless.

If you gamble to relax, once you win, get the money and go home. The trick to win is to hit and run. If you stick to the place in the hope of winning more, you will always end up the loser. One machine could let you win but if you move to another machine, it could get back what you won. So the result is you lose. But better still, never try it because you can get hooked to it.

The bottom line of gambling is always the same no matter what people will say, gambling is a bad vice which should not be tolerated.

I'm quite a skillful gambler and always finding the best strategies to win an online casino or a landed casino. My greatest mistakes is to win $21,000 USD in an online casino and was not being paid. Ended up the online casino closed down! All my deposits of few thousands are gone. I thought I was smart, but gambling made me stupid. :(

Dearest Messiah, Just wanted to take a minute to thank you on this blog for what you have done. My husband and I usually go to Atlantic City every year for our anniversary. I really didn’t know why i stop him for us not to go this year because I am tired of throwing money away. This year I took a chance and requested the Win a Casino Jackpot money spell on you to be cast on us because we normally play casino. Nothing seemed to change at first but day two, me at the craps table, we couldn’t lose. Ended up leaving there with $150,000! It was the best anniversary ever, thank the freemercytemple@yahoo.com for us,his spell casting is really fast and powerful!

Hi drvoros. You said it all right. Do not start to gamble because gambling is addictive. I have known people who have lost their livelihood, their properties and even families because of gambling. The best way is not to start gambling. Thank you drvoros for sharing this comment. I'm sure many people will read it and learn from it. Good luck.

Do not start gamble!!!

all stories are exactly the same -perfect article-. Once you are in, very very hard to get out, and you wont be healed completelly untill the end of your life, NEVER. It is like cocaine. You start with 5 and 5 dollars bet hoping to win 5 more and you finishe by lousing evertyhing. If you are "lucky", only your savings, if not house - job - familly can go. We are three god friends (a medical doctos, and 2 lawyers) went the same paths all of us. It is not only the problem of middle-lower class folks. I lost 200 th uSD in 2 years, my whole life aprings. My friends two appartments. We are bankrupted. I can cry when I think about my snall babies, it is money rubbed from them. It is a desase perfectly descripde by neuologist, And It is the only legalised way (maybe with alcohol) to ruin, kill, destroy people. A very cynic world with good marketing of course.

I like your post although I found it a bit harsh.

Demonizing gambling sound awfully familiar to people who are against alcohol being legal or opposing the legalization of marijuana.

Gambling itself does not turn people evil, foolish or destroys their lives. Gambling is not intrinsically evil, it's how people use it to scape their problems.

I believe it all comes down to education, knowing your self (and limits) and information.

Some people simply just don't understand statistics and can't get it into their heads that casinos are no there to make people rich but rather provide a form of entertainment, which can be positive, entertaining and fun is used correctly and responsibly.

Dan 6 months ago

I read all these comments n I have lost everything because of this awful addiction. There is no fun ever . Nobody beats the casino in the long run. I use to call it a fools man game years ago. My biggest regret in life of ever walking in a casino...you people bragging about winning. Your very young n soon you keep going n watch your life go down hill........

I know gambling addiction is hard to kick for most gamblers. In my opinion, applying for a job as casino croupier might be a good idea.

You get to frequent the casino as much as you can, since most of the time you will be spending time working in the casino. Next, you get to interact with guests and deal in various games as long as you get to learn them in your training. What's more you don't have to fork out a single cent to play, you have infinite chips to play with.

The downside is, you might be tempted to steal chips which is a no no! So, please be responsible for your actions.

Thanks John for the tips. As Paul said, gambling is not as bad as it sounds and perhaps if people know how to take care of their winnings they could bring home the money.

john 8 months ago

and to tipster who said about betting 1/2/4/8/16/32/64/128, that is a betting strategy that could get you in a terrible situation. say you're betting black or red on a roullette table, it is possible that it reels off 12 rounds of the opposite color that you bet on in a row. and to counteract the strategy you're talking about (called the MARTINGALE system), the casinos put in a maximum bet limit on tables so if you lose 20 times in a row (entirely possible, just terrible odds of ever occurring [one half x 20]), you cannot keep doubling up. and all of that to win 1 DOLLAR. risk does not equal the reward. (you keep doing it over and over again to win 1 dollar and, statistically, you're likely to encounter that one time where you keep betting until you don't have enough money to simply double up.

john 8 months ago

first off: to one of the commenters, gambling is not a sin. irresponsible gambling is a sin. i consistently make money by gambling, and i turn and reinvest those winnings in stocks. do i win all the time? no, but that is the cost of doing business. you need to mention that gambling is not for everyone, but for everyone gambling is not wrong.

Paul 8 months ago

Gambling is not as bad as it sounds. Sure you might get addiction. Gambling addiction is bad, but not Gambling itself. If you know when to stop then stop. It's a fun place to go with friends and stuff. It's just bad when you keep playing when you can't stop. Let's say you lose 100$ and you keep going. Later you lose another 100%, then you take out another 100$ and so on. Just be careful that's all. Once you win some money, leave. Come back next month or next week again. And you might have chance to not lose money that way. If you gamble a little and win a bit. And keep track with it then your fine. Just never chase any loses and never expect to become rich by gamble. Always have limits, at least 100$ maximum.

Thanks Jim. Well said. People are the creators of their own problems.

Jim 9 months ago

Masmasika: problem solved.

Here's how simple it is.

Choose your drug.

Whether you have an addictive personality or not, people are creature of habit. Stimuli are what we need to keep us excited in life. Some people travel, others love to try new foods, some like skydiving...some gamble.

We all have our choice of 'drugs', and I don't mean the substances but rather the actions that cause chemical substances to be released into our system. (adrenaline, euphoria etc)

If someone were to ask you what you would rather be addicted to:

heroine, gambling, sex or physical fitness. Which do you think would be healthiest for you? It's common sense.

Take care of your body, mind and soul by steering clear of unhealthy addictions. Gambling is one of them.

The difficult decisions in life should not be whether to go or not to go but, how much to spend without hurting anyone. Make sense?

it's all right to voice out your opinion and to be frank about how you feel. we all have our own ways of enjoying life and the important thing is you are happy and doing what you enjoy. For as long as you are not hurting other people you are free to do what you want in life. After all this is a free world we are living in.

craigy11 15 months ago

I get the feeling that you are against gambling because you think/believe it is wrong, rather than because you have either suffered from a gambling addiction, or because you want to help people.

Addiction, "an uncontrollable compulsion to repeat a behavior regardless of its consequences." I don't think you are ever too young to feel like this.

I am an advocate of empowering children and young adults. Too often I see children/young adults treated with absolutely no respect. Personally, I think the term 'respect your elders' is absolutely bullshit. 'Respect everyone who respects you' is how I live my life.

By living by the mentality that I am too young to be addicted, is going to breed a society/societies with people who have become 'addicted' in your sense of the word, because they have not been shown respect when they could be helped!

Yes, I am single in the sense that I am not married, but I am in a long term relationship.

Sometimes finding a hobby and going out with your friends doesnt fill all the voids. I have represented my country at 2 different sports, and have a good social life. Yet, I still gamble, and at times, I gamble when I know I shouldn't.

I gamble money which I can afford, because I earn a comfortable living.... If I didnt, I would probably be thousands in debt.

I know you are trying to give out helpful advice, however, I get the feeling that this advice is because you think gambling is morally wrong... Maybe I'm wrong!

Apologies if you feel I'm ranting, or ungrateful... Maybe my opinion could help the help you give?

Thanks

Gambling is fun. It excites people especially if you enjoy the game. I know some people who make gambling a sort of entertainment and go to the casino regularly but they are already in their retired age and they make gambling as a way of releasing stress and having fun.

I think you are too young to be addicted to gambling although you claim that you only spend what you can afford in gambling it is still a waste of money. Being young means it's time for you to save for your future. You are single and enjoying so you don't feel the pressures that life brings. If you can keep your promise to just bet on Saturday and limit what you spend in gambling it may work out fine but I still advice you to quit while it is still early. There are many ways by which you can entertain yourself and quit gambling. find a hobby and go out with your friends. i am just concerned that you will end up a gambling addict.

If you can find another way of enjoying your being single then perhaps you will forget about gambling.

Good luck.

craigy11 15 months ago

Hi, this is a very good article.

I hope you dont mind me sharing my gambling problem...

I have denied for a long time that I have a gambling problem. I have questioned whether I am addicted, or whether I just enjoy gambling?

I am 24 years old, I am not married, and I have no children. I have a good job, and am therefore comfortable financially. Having money does not excite me... Most of the money I earn each month is disposable. When I get my pay cheque, I buy anything I need or want, and then I have the rest to do what I like.

I don't gamble to win masses of money, I gamble for the adrenalin. I think.

Today, I lost £500 ($1000), and I have promised that I am going to have a budget of £20/week and I am only allowed to place bets on a saturday.

I do enjoy gambling, and I only gamble money which I have/can afford. But I still want to stop, as I feel it is spiralling out of control.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have told myself that I will stop before, but keep going back.

I would like to update you all on how I am getting on/problems or setbacks that I come across. Was just wondering whether people who are in the same situation would like to join me?

Masmasika, thank you for the kind words and good advice. I'm definately stopping now. I've decided that, if anything, I will spend the money on myself or my family instead of filling the casino owners' pockets.

Ironically, I'm extremely cheap and don't like to spend my money at all. Yet for some reason I have had no issues giving $20-$30 per hand of 4card poker or $15 per spin at a slot machine. Those days are over. Thank you for setting up this hub and reminding people of the effects of this vice!

masmasika Hub Author 17 months ago

Hi, Kevin. I'm sorry about your gambling activities. I would advice you to find other ways to spend your spare time when you aren't at work. Although many people claim that they often and some even claim that they never lose, I still advice people against gambling. I have seen people who are addicted to the vice and the more they wish to get back what they lost, the more money they lose. The only best thing to do is stop and forget about the money lost. Find other ways to augment your earnings. I hope you will stop gambling. And hope too that you will have a merry Christmas. Good luck.

Kevin 17 months ago

I always come back to this article to read about other people's stories. My situation has worsened, so I will warn you all again. Gambling is dangerous! Spent $1700 in the last month and I keep telling myself 'I'm still ahead' because I won a few smaller jackpots a couple of months ago.

I find myself going to work for a few hours, then gambling away my earnings the same way and acting as if I broke even.

I too just want more Christmas presents to give to my family - instead I'm ending up broke.

lee song to and tipster, thank you for your opinions. Gambling depends on the person involved. Some know what they are doing but not all people are smart gamblers.

Tipster 17 months ago

life is a gamble... If you don't risk anything you'll never become successful. You just have to be smart when gambling. For instence, Here's a tip - roulette put 1000 in. Bet 1$, and if you lose do this. $2/4/8/16/32/64. Once you hit 64 go back down to 1 dollar, its very rare you get that low. More often then not you'll win. Your chances of becoming rich are highly likely at this pace. Don't believe me if you don't want but think about it. I wouldn't go up to 128 because im pretty conservative, but you can make a lot of money everyday.

lee song fo 17 months ago

hey one time i gamble all my monies and won billion dollars, im so cool everydsdone should gamble it iz very fun i no loooosing my money

Brandon 18 months ago

Although I can agree with you on some of your points, your article has a biased slant. I've been gambling for about 15 years now. I have and always will budget $20 a month and keep a "jar" for gambling money. When the jar is empty, I wait until next month to resupply it with $20. All winnings go back in there and I take only $20 back with me. I'm not saying everyone can do that, I'm saying I can do that and it works for me.

That being said, your points have merit when it comes to those who cannot avoid the draw of the "almost win" phenomenon. I think your hub could benefit from mentioning what that is and why that keeps gamblers going back.

Hi, FergustromScotland, you said it all. Nobody has ever gotten rich gambling and the sad thing is that it is not only the gambler who is affected but the family members as well. I'm very glad that you finally decided to stop. I love your line-- what's wrong with becoming addicted to saving your money.

That's right! If only people will get addicted saving their money instead of being addicted to gambling there would be no gamblers around.

Thanks FergustromScotland.

FergusfromScotland 18 months ago

I was so addicted to Roulette I would put the kids to bed earlier so I could play online. I would lose money after money playing to early hours in the morning - thus making me late taking my kids to school the next day - I lost a lot and all I wanted was to buy more presents but it doesnt work that way - Oh its great when you win, its a rush and thats what sets of the addiction. But it ends there - you start chasing your loses and you lose even more - I could feel some kind of greed and evilness taking over me and it wasnt nice- I now see the roulette table as some kind of money grabbing evil device - breathing and waiting for your hard earned cash - Smiling away at you knowing you are going to lose - Mind you all the numbers add up to 666 - I decided to put a big stop to it and thought about my kids. If people can become addicted to Gambling - then whats wrong with becoming addicted to Saving your money.

I hope you have been enlightened and you wills top gambling. Thanks for sharing your experience. many people would have second thoughts when they think of gambling.

The pattern in gambling is the same and the way most people handle it is the same. When they win, they play again in the hope that there winnings will double. but instead of winning they lose all there money. so the tendency is for them to keep going back because they want there money back. that is why they get addicted.

Very good article. I'm an addictive person and I feel the rush when I win at gambling. Unfortunately, I lose alot as well. I have a wife and young daughter. We both work hard to support our family. Yet, I choose to take occassional trips to the casino in hopes of making some extra 'diaper' money. I always set myself a budget though, $100-$200. And if I lose that then I leave. The other day I won $100 and could have left, instead I lost $200 and won $100 again. So I was even at the end! But the day was wasted.

Stay away from gambling folks!

Good for you Myscratchoff because you have control of yourself. Other people just don't have that kind of control and they spend every dime in gambling.

Gambling is very addictive man. I totally agree with you. I enjoy gambling a bit but very conservative. I look at it as entertainment not a way to win money. So if I go to the casino and drop $100 no big deal as long as I am not doing that every day. Once a month or a year is totally fine.

snwrit, you are right. Gamblers believe in so many things that make them more addicted to the vice. If only they stop believing then they will perhaps learn their mistake.

ps The problem with trusting and believing in good luck is that it opens you up for the potential of recieving bad luck--not cool.

Scheng1 thanks for your comment. I am talking about casino, lottery, and other forms of gambling here not about what you mentioned.

Can't say I agree with the article. Starting a business is a gamble. Marriage is a gamble, and many people fail miserably.
