Designing your resume' is as important as the content of your resume'  Working on the design of your resume' will enhance the effectiveness of your application and will increase your chance of getting hired for the job you are applying for.

Your resume’ serves as your ticket to that job you have been dreaming to have. It will also serve as an advertisement for you to get that job. The design you use for your resume’ is very important because this reflects on what type of person you are. When you design that resume of yours, you should consider some tips in order to arrive at a well-designed resume that could stand out and get you hired.

You should look at the resume as an advertisement that should attract the reader. Put your shoes in the reader’s feet. How would you react to a resume that has decorative fonts and colorful design? You would probably disapprove of this if you are recruiting for an applicant in the janitorial section but if the applicant is applying as an artist, you would probably pay more attention to the resume and read it from top to bottom.

The appearance of your resume is what catches the attention of the reader once she gets hold of your resume. With the number of resumes that readers accept every day; the chances of your resume being read by the reader is very minimal. If the reader does not like the appearance of your resume, she could always throw it in the shredder because of numerous resumes that they receive every day.

Don’t use the same sizes of fonts in your name and in the text of your resume. You should always use fonts that are larger than the rest of the texts. You can also use ALL CAPITALS or First Letter Larger and any other creative font like script. All of these are acceptable except for fonts that are too decorative that they could be hardly read by the reader. By saying scannable; it means your resume should be deciphered by the computer machine.  Since the modern corporate world uses computer to make all sorts of task easier, you should always consider the computer readability of your resume.

If your resume is scannable, you have to make sure that the machine can read your resume properly. Avoid using designs that the machine cannot scan because no matter how beautiful your resume is if it cannot be scanned by the machine, your resume will likely get lost in cyberspace.
